There are two types of treatment available for type 1 Gaucher disease:
Enzyme replacement therapy (ERT): An infusion that administers a modified, functional version of the enzyme glucocerebrosidase into a patient’s bloodstream
Oral treatment with a substrate reduction therapy (SRT) that blocks the production of the fatty substance glucocerebroside.
